History

Our Center opened in 1989. Initially, the upper floor was dedicated to childcare and the bottom floor was occupied by the neighborhood builder and utilized as sales offices. As the Center grew and the neighborhood expanded, the childcare center acquired more space and the sales offices moved out to various model homes. In those days, the childcare center was owned and operated by the builder, Pepperill Construction. In 1994, Pepperill Construction sold the childcare business to Athené Cannon who had worked there since 1989 and had been the Director since 1993. In 1997, Mrs. Cannon purchased the building and property. The Center has graduated more than 500 children to the Plymouth Elementary School System since it opened. Many of them will come back to visit from time to time, which is most gratifying. The Center’s facilities are often used for community meetings and other functions and, in recent years, has hosted an annual “child safety” day for South Plymouth area residents.
